Bio:
Ted Swann, a Liberty Fellow in South Carolina, chose to abandon the status quo and develop a small “direct primary care medical” practice focused on enhancing the relationship between doctor and patient. Through his practice, Ted offers personalized primary care for a limited number of patients focused on lifestyle optimization and attention to detail so patients can enjoy their best health. Founded over ten years ago, Swann Medicine is a lean, price transparent model free from the burden of intrusion from insurers and administrators. Swann Medicine has become known to set the standard for excellence and for its commitment to the broader Clemson Community.
Ted served on the Steering Committee of IndeDoc, a statewide association for independent physicians. Ted is a strong advocate for physician autonomy, independent practice ownership, and policies that empower patients to have discretion over their health care dollars and freedom to choose in a health care market. Ted believes unleashing the power of local information and its free "on the ground" agents with larger innovations offers efficient and impactful solutions that can rescue personal and community health from the underperforming and critically fragile current healthcare system.
Ted holds a B.S. in Biological Studies from Clemson University and his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. A passionate Clemson Alumni he has served on its Board of Visitors and Student Affairs Advisory Board. He has served on the Board of Trustees for Camperdown Academy, a school for students with Dyslexia. His part-time passion is in Youth Coaching and hunting. During COVID he was involved in the research and development of a Saliva PCR Sars-COV2 test through Clemson University that was then offered for free to the regional community. In that capacity he served as the community lab director. The impact of this initiative garnered acclaim and the impact studies were published in multiple international medical journals.
