Mike is the CEO of GreenCape, an NPO that drives the accelerated development the Green Economy in South Africa.
Our primary focus is to remove barriers to economically viable projects in the Energy, Water and Circular economy. Over the last 10 years this has been successful in leveraging and creating investment worth over $1bn and over 10 000 jobs.
Some completed projects include: feed-in-tariff design and implementation for SA Municipalities; design, set up and approvals for the 1st GreenTech Special Economic Zone in SA; Day-Zero drought resilience response for business (working with the City of Cape town); and execution and continuation of the 1st significant scale Industrial symbiosis project in Africa. Demonstrating the viability of the circular economy in a developing country.
Work in progress includes: setting up a Green OutComes Fund for SMEs; and working towards replication of the GreenCape methodology to support a Just Energy Transition.
Mike is a Fellow of the twelfth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative - South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
