First Name:
Frederick
Last Name:
Hutson
Title and Organization:
Cofounder & CEO, Pigeonly
Bio:
Frederick Hutson is Cofounder and CEO of Pigeonly, a low-cost communication and financial services platform that makes it easy for people to support an incarcerated loved one. Based in Las Vegas, Pigeonly collects and organizes data on the nation’s incarcerated, transforming it into usable information used to power products that benefit inmates and society. Launched in 2013, Pigeonly's consumer products make it possible for people to easily send printed photos, letters, greeting cards, postcards, and even online articles from any cell phone, tablet or computer within a few clicks. One of Pigeonly’s most successful products is a low-cost VoIP phone solution, similar to Google Voice, for notoriously expensive prison phone calls. By 2015, the company had sent almost a million pieces of mail and facilitated over eight million minutes of telephone calls. Formerly, Frederick served in the US Air Force as an Aircraft Electrician, where he worked on jet engines at the Nellis Air Force Base. During his time in the Air Force, he also launched and ran several businesses. He was honorably discharged in 2005. Frederick is a member of the 2020 Class of Henry Crown Fellows within the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute.
