Title and Organization:
Alexander Paul is managing director and global co-head of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at HSBC. Prior to that, he was Global Head of Business Development, leading on strategy, change and transformation for the Global Banking division. He joined HSBC in 2007 and has done a variety of roles across M&A, capital markets and investment and corporate banking. Before banking, Alexander was a lawyer at Clifford Chance in London and Singapore.
He read law at the University of Manchester and the Oxford Institute of Legal Studies and has an MSc Finance from the University of London’s School of African and Oriental Studies. Alexander was named Mergermarket’s Young Dealmaker of the Year 2011 and was listed in the Financial News Top 40 under 40.
Alexander lives in London. He was raised in Kuala Lumpur and continues to spend time professionally in Asia and the Middle East. He is passionate about improving access to education and financial literacy, and was previously a board member of the Aquinas Trust, a non-profit operator of schools in England. Alexander is a Fellow of the 2021 Class of the Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
