Van Zyl Botha is a Chartered Accountant by profession and an Entrepreneur at heart. Van Zyl started in the Listed and International Mining sector before moving into Telecoms. He co-founded Herotel in April 2013 as a roll-up strategy for the fixed wireless industry. He drove the M&A strategy for the group, completing 39 acquisitions in 4 years, he then took the helm as CEO in 2018. He has since turned the business into the 3rd largest fibre network player in South Africa. Herotel currently employs more than 1,500 people across 95 offices and provides services in more than 522 towns and suburbs to more than 310,000 on-network fixed broadband customers. The company operates 2,100 wireless towers and manages more than 100 fibre projects passing 600,000 homes.
Van Zyl Completed several rounds of capital raising, raised senior secured debt and leveraged finance with one of the top 4 major banks in SA. The company has since taken on a major investor.
