Desnei Leaf-Camp is the CEO of Xina Solar One, a 100MW Concentrated Solar Plant located in South Africa. Desnei has been in the Africa private power business for the past 20 years with a strong focus on renewable energy technologies. With a background in project finance and sustainable development, she has worked for international independent power producers (IPPs) like ENGIE, and development finance institutions like the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The past ten years have been extremely exciting with renewable energy playing a pivotal role in expanding private sector involvement in the African electricity market, increasing access for underserved communities, and ensuring socially and environmentally sustainable development. The steady participation of women in has heretofore been a male-dominated industry has also been encouraging when you consider that in Africa women are the most affected by lack of or inadequate access to safe and reliable energy. Desnei's mission is to create more for women to not only participate, but to lead the industry in delivering a just energy and net zero carbon future. Desnei graduated from the Amercian University, Washington DC, with an MBA in the International Business and an MA in International Development. She is a Fellow of the 13th class of the South African Fellowship Program and a member of the AGLN.
