Maru Flores is the founder and creator of Marujatz, a company that was established in 2005 aimed at designing custom-made, one-of-a-kind party accessories for all types of events. She engineered the entire production system, from the construction of the cutting molds to the search and selection of the materials. She also designed a training program for her workforce that allowed her to increase production and grow sustainably over the years.
In 2016, after gaining experience in the local market, Maru decides to take a leap into the retail industry, creating a different line of accessories through an additional trademark Serpentinas. This product line extension allowed her to begin commercial relationships with renowned retailers and reaching many other countries of Latin America, such as Colombia, Perú, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Maru is an active member of Vital Voices’ chapter in El Salvador since 2011 and is involved in several mentoring programs, both as a mentor and mentee. Among these are VVGROW - 2013, the Global Partnership, and the Comité de Formación Técnico Profesional para la MYPE, all led by a group of outstanding, professional women dedicated to identifying leaders and empowering them to support their communities’ social and economic development.
Graduating in 2007, Maru earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor degree in graphic design from Escuela de Comunicación Mónica Herrera. Ever since, through the successful evolution of Marujatz and Serpentinas, she has supported local communities by providing a sustainable and inclusive work environment, specifically for Salvadorean women from high-risk areas with scarce opportunities and little chances of achieving careers on their own. Watching her team grow and thrive and helping them and their families has allowed her to fulfill her personal dreams and has defined her mission for the future.
Maru is a Fellow of the sixteenth class of the Central American Leadership Initiative (CALI), a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
