About

[Edit]

First Name:
Dawson
Last Name:
Her Many Horses
Title and Organization:
MD & Head of Native American Banking, Wells Fargo Bank
Bio:
As one of the first—and likely the first—tribal members to be named Managing Director at a major U.S. bank, I’ve built my career at the intersection of finance and tribal self-determination. I’m a proud citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, and I’ve spent two decades helping tribal nations navigate capital markets with clarity, integrity, and results. I currently lead Native American Banking at Wells Fargo, where we bank more than 200 federally recognized tribes—representing 1 in 3 tribes in the United States. Our business manages $4.6 billion in credit commitments and holds $3.7 billion in deposits for tribal governments and tribally owned enterprises. My background spans both investment and commercial banking, with experience structuring and syndicating large-scale transactions across Indian Country—particularly in gaming, infrastructure, and government-related sectors. I’ve led financing strategies for projects ranging from casino resorts to community development initiatives, always with a focus on long-term, values-aligned outcomes. But expanding capital access is only part of the work. I’ve also engaged policymakers and regulators to address the structural barriers tribal nations face in finance, pushed for better business and economic data to combat Indigenous economic invisibility, and advocated for more Native professionals at every level of the financial system.
