Dr Bophela’s academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MBA from Bond University (Australia) and a BSc (Hons) Biotechnology from Wolverhampton University (England).
Dr Bophela has published peer reviewed and conference papers from his doctoral dissertation through international and DHET accredited journals.
He has served as a part-time lecturer for Entrepreneurship and Business Management & Leadership at the Durban University of Technology ‘DUT’ in the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Department of Somatology.
Dr Bophela’s corporate management experience spans various multinational companies including SA Breweries, Deloitte Consulting, Nampak and First National Bank. He is the former Head of Start-Up Businesses at First National Bank as a result of his entrepreneurial experience in start-up ventures in the following fields: Mining and Exploration, Engineering, and Investments & Portfolio Management.
His Directorships, Trusteeship, and sub-committees of Boards lists; Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre (hereinafter Durban ICC), Adams College and Diocese of Natal (Anglican Church).
1. Board of Directors – Durban ICC (Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre)
Dr Bophela is currently the Chairman of the Board at Durban ICC. He has served in various committees of the DICC Board – being, Human Resources Committee, Audit Committee, Finance, Risk & Compliance Committee, and Marketing, and Infrastructure & Business Development Committee. He has assumed the roles of Chairman of the latter committees. Whilst Chairman of the Finance, Risk & Compliance Committee the DICC delivered two of the cleanest audits in since its’ inauguration in 1997.
2. Advisory Board
Dr Bophela serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the Namibian University of Science & Technology.
3. Board of Trustees of the Diocese of Natal & Adams College
Dr Bophela is an Anglican by faith. He has served the church as a member of the Diocese of Natal Board of Trustees and the Investments subcommittee. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Adams College Educational Trust – founded in 1958 to fundraise and provide financial assistance to historically disadvantage students.
