Bio:
Cheng Hang, also known as Shawn Cheng, is a prominent figure in the Chinese sports media landscape. His passion for basketball led him to create "hoopCHINA," a basketball blog while he was still in the U.S. This blog eventually evolved into Hupu (虎扑), which he founded in 2004. Hupu has grown significantly under Cheng's leadership, transforming from a niche basketball blog into China's largest sports forum. It now boasts over 70 million registered users as of 2020. The platform has expanded beyond sports, becoming a lifestyle community where users discuss a wide range of topics from sports to personal life issues. Hupu is particularly noted for its influence on Chinese sports culture and its role in shaping online discussions around sports and contemporary societal issue. Received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University. An enthusiastic video game player and movie junkie. Cheng Hang is a Fellow of the 2024 Class of the Aspen Institute’s China Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
