Marvin was born in Beijing, China and started his career as a researcher in Development Research Center of the State Council of China, doing research and drafting reports for senior officials in central government. Since 1999, Marvin joined his first startup, Netease.com (NASDAQ listed) as a Business Development manager, after which he founded several startups in the Internet and mobile industry in Greater China. Marvin was the co-founder of PICA, the No. 1 wireless instant messaging and mobile social networking service operator in Greater China. In 2010, PICA was acquired with $100 million. Marvin is now the CEO and founder of Lekeketang.com (Lele Academy), which is now the leading online K12 education platform in China. Lele got five rounds of $95 million investment from leading venture capital funds including Morningside Capital, Lightspeed Capital, New Oriental School, Owl Ventures and Bluerun Ventures. Marvin is also board member of Asia Board for the Wharton School and a member of YPO (Young President Organization) EWE Chapter. Marvin received his B.E. and M.A. from Xi’an Jiaotong University, and MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Marvin was on board of Morningside Capital as Venture Partner, and was the President of Wharton Club Beijing. Marvin Mao is a Fellow of the 2024 Class of the Aspen Institute’s China Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
