Alex Smith joined ESPN in 2021 as an NFL analyst, primarily on Sunday NFL Countdown. A three-time Pro Bowler, he played 16 NFL seasons after being selected No. 1 overall by the 49ers in 2005, also spending time with Kansas City and Washington. He threw for over 35,000 yards, nearly 200 touchdowns, and was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2020 after overcoming a life-threatening leg injury. His journey was featured in ESPN’s E60: Project 11. At Utah, Smith was MWC Player of the Year and a Heisman finalist before leading the team to a Fiesta Bowl win. Off the field, he founded the Alex Smith Foundation, supporting foster teens. In 2022 Smith became a Venture Partner with Section Partners, a venture firm providing liquidity to founders and other key shareholders in tech companies. He’s also a co-host of a podcast, “Glue Guys” with friends Ravi Gupta, Sequoia Partner, and Shane Battier, former NBA champion. Smith lives in Northern California with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children.
