#GiveTogetherNow - Direct-cash assistance for families impacted by COVID-19
As a mom of two kids (2 1/2 and 5), the adjustment to managing the needs of my family and working from home has been challenging to say the least. But I am one of the lucky ones. So many people across this country are in isolation without work, without a way to earn an income, without the ability to pay their next rent check or get access to vital essentials to keep food on the table. They need help NOW.

This week, Stand Together announced a partnership with the Family Independence Initiative to launch #GiveTogetherNow, a rapid-response effort to get money directly to families affected by the COVID-19 crisis who need it most. 100% of donations go directly to the families.

In just 72 hours, the campaign has raised over $14 million dollars. The first payments will go out to families this week.

Families know best what they need most, so there are no strings attached. Once a recipient’s identity and eligibility are verified, they receive a direct cash transfer to their bank account. For nearly 20 years, Family Independence Initiative has provided direct cash investments along with a supportive community to empower low-income families. This pioneering approach recognizes the dignity and ingenuity of people who have fallen on hard times. And their results are among the best in the field—empowering families to increase their incomes by more than 20 percent and their personal savings by ten times.  In addition to the Family Independence Initiative's existing locations, we have a community of 100+ nonprofits who have agreed to be part of this campaign to verify and vet families and get them on the platform to receive cash payments.  We welcome other nonprofit partners who would be interested in joining us.

Families that are eligible to receive cash transfers:
  • Have a household income below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (or $37,650 for a family of four),
  • Have a bank account that can accept an ACH transfer, and
  • Are experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19, including unpaid leave due to social isolation orders, care of vulnerable or ill family members, loss of wages as a result of involuntary business closures, or unpaid leave due to school or day care closure.
Please visit GiveTogetherNow.org and share the link with your friends and colleagues. We are eager and excited to partner with other nonprofits, business leaders and philanthropists to join this effort.
