Bio:
Pedro X. Molina is a Nicaraguan cartoonist with more than 20 years of experience working with national and international media outlets. Pedro currently publishes his work in Confidencial (confidencial.com.ni) in Nicaragua and Counterpoint (counterpoint.com) in the United States, where he has been living since he fled Nicaragua in late 2018.
In addition to his daily work as a cartoonist and illustrator, Pedro has taught university-level courses on the techniques and history of cartooning at Ithaca College and Cornell University (both in New York). He is currently an Artist Protection Fund fellow and visiting critic at Cornell.
His awards include the Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent 2023, Award for Journalistic Excellence from the Gabo Foundation (2021), second prize in the “Gag Cartoon” category from World Press Cartoon (2020), the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University (2019), the Award for Excellence in Journalism from the Inter American Press Association (2019), and the Courage in Cartooning Award from Cartoonists Rights Network International (2018).
Pedro’s last book title is "Recordar es resistir" besides several cartoon compilations of his work, he has also contributed to many books devoted to cartooning such as several editions of “Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year” published by Pelican (USA) and also a collection published by Gallimard/ Cartooning For Peace) France) Pedro’s work has also been exhibited in several countries in America and Europe and his cartoons, caricatures, editorial illustrations, comics have been printed or published online in many major publications such as: Project Syndicate, Politico.com, Cartoon Movement, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, ChicagoTribune, Courrier International, Courrier Japan, The Vancouver Sun, London Free Press, Der Standard, El Universal (Mexico), La Tercera (Chile), La Nación (Costa Rica) China Daily, Newsweek, The Week, UTNE reader, Ekonom, Dunya, Jira Times, Khaleej Times, Daily News and Analysis (DNA), Modern Weekly, The Vienna Review, BBC, France 24 and CNN.
