Bio:
Cristina strives to live into Sonya Renee Taylor?s reflection that ?normal never was,? and enters each day seeking to reconceptualize and redesign systems, policies and practices to better serve those who have been historically excluded. She believes in the power of facilitative leadership that centers communities in problem definition and solutions design. She is a proud Latina, has a passion for racial justice and brings extensive expertise in coherence-building and professional learning design. As Chief People and Equity Officer at Education First, Cristina leads its efforts to build a race equity culture and ensures coherence and equity across its organizational priorities and teams. She drives Ed First's core strategy and firmwide learning agenda alongside an exceptional team of leaders, with a perspective informed by over 16 years of experience as a K-12 practitioner, strategist and advisor. Prior to joining Education First, Cristina led teacher support and sustainability at Tennessee?s Achievement School District. She is also a former elementary and secondary teacher, working in both traditional and charter schools in Houston, Texas. Cristina earned her B.A. in Political Science at the University of Notre Dame and holds a Master of Public Policy from Vanderbilt University. She serves on the board of Valor Collegiate Academies and lives in Nashville, TN with her husband Tony and dog Lincoln.
