Launched in 2019, One GS Media is a bold and innovative for-profit company owned and founded by one of the most well-respected brands in the country: Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). The company operates separately from GSUSA.
In 2020, we will bring to market a compelling, inspiring and trusted digital media site for adult women that will offer lifestyle content grounded in Girl Scouts values. The site will satisfy an unmet market need: there is no one site in the top 50 that delivers useful and inspirational content tailored to the multifaceted needs of women, grounded in values women share. Developed with award-winning agency and patented AI technology partners who serve as critical and ongoing stakeholders, OGSM will optimize the audience and site value for Advertisers.
Our unique and unmatched social good digital media site is grounded in our authentic core: revenue generated by the site will fuel Girl Scouts programs nationwide. Every click, view and action equal direct revenue to Girl Scouts, the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. POSITION PROFILE
CEO Oversight and Accountability
As One GS Media’s first Chief Executive Officer, the CEO will have ultimate accountability for the strategy and revenue to move the company from launch to growth stage, based upon the provided business plan and direction. A key part of the role is to act as One GS Media’s dynamic and passionate brand, media, and public ambassador, driving business with partners, advertisers and quality content creators to generate sales, build site traffic and grow awareness, interest and demand.
The CEO should lead with an entrepreneurial mindset and work well in tandem with the company’s Chief Operating Officer who was instrumental in the formation of the company and has successfully been managing operations since founding, and will continue to do so in collaboration with the CEO’s leadership. In addition, a strong and trusting relationship with founding agency partners – including Rogers and Cowan who brought the idea forward and has an operational role– is critical to the CEO’s success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Initial 90 days - Lead OGSM and team to achieve:
Review of Company's Business Plan, Operations, Staffing and External Partners/Contractors in order to recommend and reach agreement with the Board of Managers regarding adjustments to support business goals for FY 2021.
- Development of detailed strategies and operational objectives, including scrutiny and recommended operational efficiency improvements to the business model and its corresponding operations implemented in the form of a detailed monthly plan for FY 2021
- Identify, assess and recommend potential partnerships that will leverage partner assets to grow OGSM business.
- Review our content strategy, vendors, teams and operations cohesively that deliver a defensible and differentiated creative voice in a crowded market. Ensure that we have a content policy that is fair and balanced and inclusive. Building out a content team that is chosen for familiarity with digital content, ability to exercise independent judgement and reflect gender and geographic balance. Manages a community policy that balances freedom of expression while maintaining Girl Scout Values in our community norms.
CEO is expected to be the public face of the corporation; its media, press and brand ambassador and to lead directly with advertisers, leveraging his/her rolodex and participating in key meetings in order to close sales.
At the end of their first year of tenure, the CEO is expected to have achieved:
- Met Financial performance targets for Fiscal Year 2021 revenue including: ○ building a robust revenue mix for the business including a robust ad sales pipeline of opportunities and commitments that convert into bookings and revenue.
- Managing our mix of low to high margin revenue while effectively managing operational expenses.
- Managing organization growth and scaling team efficiently to realize initial growth through FY2021 resulting in building our team across product, marketing, sales, finance, content and operations.
- Developed detailed business plan to outline detailed business strategies, re-investment and marketing, content programs to grow business FY 2021 - 2023 (Goal for overall 3 -year plan is to build a Media site with positive significant cash flows and over $100M in annual revenues)
- Continued growth in site KPI’s such as site visits, Unique visitors engagement and content sharing metrics (increase in page views, decrease in bounce rate)
- Manage growth of our advertising KPIs such as ad load, average CPM, fulfillment rates and ad mix without compromising our content strategy or user experience.
- Oversees our Manage our product operations including our product design, UI/UX and tech vendors to deliver a successful destination that is up-to-date with modern standards and modern expectations of a destination site MVP. Work with our tech teams to determine an ongoing product roadmap. ○ Assessment and cost-benefit plan of added features such as community functions and other features on-site. Identification of product/channel strategies to expand reach and strength of brand and value of OGSM.
STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Leadership: Lead the evolution of strategies to manage risk and develop growth opportunities.
- Financial Performance and Viability: Oversight for all financial activities including cash flow, revenue, and expenses that lead to growth.
- Brand and Media Ambassador: Serve as the external face of the company to attract high-value and brand-aligned partners and advertisers to cultivate ad sales, new revenue streams (when appropriate) and increase site traffic, retention and brand awareness.
- Board of Managers Collaboration: Will work closely with the One GS Media Board of Managers, engaging them in the current and future needs of the organization.
- Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) Agreements: Abide by the terms of the Operating and License Agreements with the parent company, GSUSA and work effectively with the GSUSA Executive team, as well as the GSUSA board.
- Team Building: Build staff structure and organization plan to hire, retain and mentor a high-performing, diverse team with a commitment to strong staff engagement and inclusivity.
EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated Results:
- Proven track record of growing a digital media business (such as increasing subscribers/members, improving site consumption and optimizing retention).
- Track record in growing businesses from $1M to $10M and/or $10M to $100M.
- Expertise with traditional media, successfully completing goals and adapting strategies to meet the shifting media landscape.
- Start-up experience, including mitigating risks (present and anticipated), prioritizing for growth areas and abandoning or de-prioritizing low growth strategies.
- Able to prioritize spending in order to maximize cost-efficiency and growth.
- Additional experience working in a larger, established well-known brand or agency a plus.
- Skilled at interacting with a Board of Managers
Media Industry Knowledge and Experience:
- Extensive experience in the media business, primarily in digital media, with keen insight into business models, ad revenue, syndication and licensing deals, content and social strategy
- Experience with driving business including syndication, sponsorships and partnerships and traditional ad sales.

- Keen understanding of women's brands with insight into how women behave, engage, buy, and interact
- Understand the multiple dimensions that are unique to women i.e. their interests in personal growth, professional growth and as caretakers
- Demonstrated understanding of customer segmentation with an eye toward the changing demographics of the US

- Solid reputation as a strong people leader with a “following” of former colleagues and direct reports
- Comfort running teams and business of all sizes, with the ability to adapt leadership style as the company grows
